He’s Just Not That Into You: Movie Review

I’m just not that into your stupid movie. My review after the jump.
I went and saw the movie this past Saturday. Because of other bad reviews and the fact that the release date got pushed back so many times, I didn’t have super high hopes but I did think I’d at least have fun with it. I didn’t. I left the movie theatre a little angry.
The content of the movie (which is really the content of the book) works. I totally agree with the idea that if a guy isn’t calling you, he’s not into you. If guys want to make a date happen, they will, no matter how busy. If you are dating a guy for many years and he hasn’t proposed, he won’t. Etc. etc. Again, I totally agree and think it’s good for women to come to terms with it. It really is freeing and cuts down on some of the obsessing time.
The other idea that goes hand in hand with these ideas is that women should always assume they are the rule not the exception. In the movie they really drive this point home. For instance, when Scarlett Johansson’s character questions what can come from dating a married man, another character says she knows of a happy couple who met when the guy was married, after which he left his wife and they have been married for years and years. In reality, the married guy rarely leaves his wife so a mistress should always assume she’s the rule (”a married man with not leave his wife”) and not the exception. This is a good theory that cuts down on that obsessing time again.
My biggest problem with the movie is the ending. After nearly two hours of the movie driving these ideas home, nearly all the characters end up being the exception! WTF did I just spend two hours watching if, in the end, it proved it’s own theories wrong? There were women leaving the theater feeling hopeful about assholes they were dating because “in the movie they said it would never happen and it still did!” Oh well.
What else can I say? Jennifer Aniston looked amazing in every scene. She has a flawless body and perfect hair. Bradley Cooper is hot as hell. Ben Affleck looked good. Scarlett Johansson is a really bad actor and looked like crap in this movie. Ginnifer Goodwin is a very charming actress. Drew Barrymore’s character didn’t really serve much of a purpose. I never noticed how cute Justin Long was before.
All in all, you are probably better off going to see something else. If a romantic comedy junkie like me couldn’t enjoy it, you probably won’t either. You are better off renting something with Hugh Grant in it and buying a bottle of Patron.

Thanks for the heads up, NSG. I was looking for a reason to avoid this thing. I’m not sure how the gf feels about Patron, but we’ll look for something with Hugh Grant instead.
I watched it. This movie is perfect when u are depressed- gives u more reasons to be depressed!!!
